My then 83 year old dad fell. He broke his shoulder, collar bone, wrist, femur head and hip. At 6'3 1/2", 260lbs, suffering from COPD and heart issues....that is a big deal. For a year and a half, my dad has slept in a lift chair. The head physical therapist told us my dad really needed to be in a bed and she said he would be able to sleep in a Craftmatic Bed. She assured us, she could get him in and out of it and sleeping in it.

I immediately called Craftmatic. I told our sales rep the situation. My dad had to sleep sitting up. He had heavy hardware in his arm, from his shoulder to his wrist. He had breathing issues which meant he had to sleep sitting up. We were assured.....everyone LOVES their Craftmatic bed. To his recollection, not one bed was ever returned. He assured us the bed would be delivered before we left town, so we could help my dad adjust to it. We felt tremendous pressures to decide, as the bed was on inventory reduction, and there was only one left, and we had to make a decision within a day. PLEASE, never make a decision that fast. I so wanted my dad to be able to sleep in a bed, we went ahead with it.

What a mistake! The bed was not able to be delivered in the time frame promised. They did offer me a chance to cancel, but we wanted my dad to sleep in a bed. How I wish I had cancelled. The bed was delivered and my parents tried it. For four nights, each night got progressively worse for my dad. Each night became more painful. The hardware in his arm, with the gravity pull, was excruciatingly painful. No matter how they tried to raise the arm, cushion the arm and make my dad comfortable.....it was impossible for him to be comfortable in the Craftmatic bed. In reality, each night became more painful.

I called the salesman, Peter. He was very short. He informed me the bed could not even be scheduled for a pickup/return for 31 days. I explained the situation. He said the contract I signed, on behalf of my parents, stated we would try the bed for 31 days. Yes, I signed the contract. Under the pressure of ordering and leaving my parents, I did mis-read the contract. I thought we had up to 31 days to return. That was what was continually said to me on phone conversations. We had up to 31 days to try the bed. Somehow I missed it was we HAD to keep the bed for 31 days. Peter told me the 31 day period was to make people really give the bed a try. My dad was done. He was in agony in the bed. The sheets were off. There was no way he was going to try the bed again. It was not a "getting used to it"....it was he was in agony pain and could not. The bed did not work for him. Peter said I had to wait at least a week and could maybe supersede the 31 day wait. All the while, my mother was sleeping on a couch, because she refused to sleep on the bed (we got the King dual bed for both of them), knowing it was going back.

Craftmatic cared more about their policy than an 84 year old couple who were very stressed over having this bed in their home. They wanted it out and they were not going to use it.

Endless phone calls went unanswered and postponed. When I did talk with someone from Craftmatic, they made the offer to let my parents buy the bed for $2400 less than they paid for it. Keep the bed and they would refund the money. I think that is how they can say, "To my knowledge, no one has ever returned a Craftmatic bed. My parents did not want the bed. Even for $2000.00. They kept postponing and delaying.

I called and called. When I was able to actually talk with someone, I felt like they were appeasing me, saying what I wanted to hear, all the while going the way they wanted to handle it (slow and 31 day wait). I called and pleaded. My mom is the only caregiver for my dad. He is in a wheelchair and needs total chair. This situation was stressing my mom beyond measure. She wanted the bed gone and her bed back. I was fearful this was going to cause my mom a stroke. All my pleas to Craftmatic went unheard or pacified.

Finally, after three week, we were told boxes for the delivery would be sent. Once we got the boxes, we could schedule a pickup. Then I got an email stating the boxes could take 5-10 to be delivered. Are you serious? We are talking about an 84 year old couple, who are home bound, who were dramatically affected by having that bed still in their home. The shipping manager from Craftmatic, Danai, said she would order the pickup as though the boxes were already there. Well.....if she did, it was interesting the delivery pickup company did not talk with us until the boxes had actually been delivered.

Then, the pickup company, Manna Distributor, said it would take a week before they could pick it up. They scheduled a day to pick up and called to say they made a mistake. It could not be that day. They computer was wrong. No one would be in my parents area that day. They scheduled another day. Then they made a mistake, and did not pick it up on the day it was supposed to be picked up. My parentโ€™s put their life on hold โ€œwaitingโ€ the four hour window for pickup. The nightmare continued. I called Craftmatic, and left an extremely upset message. My parents waited for the four hour period of time the truck was supposed to come. Their life was on hold. No one came. When I called the pickup company, I was told the drivers made a mistake. They missed the order to pick up. It would be another week. Craftmatic NEVER returned the message I left. I just believe they really do not care. Manna scheduled another pickup and AGAIN never showed up.

My opinion and experience....Craftmatic truly does not care about the consumer. They care about their name, their reputation. They care about NO ONE ever returning a bed. They answer calls when they want to and not because they are serving the customer. Peter got defensive when I suggested we were not listened to and guided correctly.

I am still waiting for the bed to be picked up. A month of calling, pleading and trying to find someone who cares has been extremely stressful for me. What a horrible experience. Don't let it happen to you. If you are buying the bed for a medically challenged person....THINK TWICE. My experience with Craftmatic was awful! I would never trust this company or believe them to be honest and a company of integrity. I trusted Consumer Reports saying they were the number one company of adjustable beds. Well, they totally missed the mark for my parents.

I feel bad what happened but you felt rushed and didn't wait! People buy stuff because infomercials and then yodel how they were ripped off when infomercials are all a scam.

Even if a doctor recommends something like this bed do your research! You wsnt to see reviews read the honest ONE star reviews before you buy and just because a doctor recommends it doesn't make it locked in stone.

Next time stop making rash decisions by being pressured. That's on you and tough if that bit of truth you're not interested in hearing.

The Craftmatic bed is a total gimmick. Do not buy.

Father had one when he had cancer and he found the sofa more comfortable after he bought it. Because the mattress has to bend it has low support and caused him to have much pain.

I pitched a Craftmatic bed in June and they did not pick it up untilAugus almost September. They are very Fraudulent company.

They said I agreed to a 999.00 restock fee which is a lie. They said I gave a verbal agreement but another lie. They never played it because it was a lie. Please donโ€™t waste your money on these frauds.

I wish I had heard the bad fraud reviews.

Bad People But they will reap it one day. God never sleeps.

I actually called Craftmatic to just get info, ended up charging a bed to my credit card---the charge was put on my card right then. I cancelled the order the following morning, plus I never signed the agreement form sent to my computer. it is now a week shy of a MONTH that I am waiting for the charge to be removed from my credit card!

I just watched their tv ad. And was surprised that they had no prices or anything on their website.

So I signed up with just my first name and the frist two letters of my last name.Well they called the next day long story short the price of there top of the line full size bad started at 3,600 Dollars. After explaining that I'm disabled and waiting for my hearing .All of a sudden he's going to talk to his manager and see what they can do..And less than a minute later he's back telling me that because I'm disabled and have been sleeping in my recliner more than my bed the price dropped to 2,300. I said great but at this time I have to keep a roof over my head and don't know what going to happen at the hearing and I didn't want to spend money that I might need to survive .Yet he still keep doing saying that if I put a thousand down they could hold that price. Then I asked about the 30 day return policy. And whamo I would have to pay for shipping it back at around 700 dollars. Nope not for me also when you sign up it takes you to a page where you could download the catalog But could never get it to work plug in not supported .And when I asked about that I was told that there is no catalog?????

.So today I started to to fo reviews and I gald I have. Spend a little more and try one at a store witch crafmatic doesn't have.

You probably work for them....You are as ignorant as the *** I spoke to. ***

You were lucky, other companies do not take the bed back under any circumstances, you are being completely unreasonable, I guess 3700 customers disagree with you opinion ( read consumer affairs ) It is not only about you, others do exist!

What an awful experience. Since we are looking at these beds for medical reasons, and I ALWAYS read reviews, we now know we will NOT be buying a Craftmatic adjustable bed.

There is so little integrity in this world as it is, knowingly buying from a company without INTEGRITY is not something I would willingly do. Thanks for taking the time to tell us of this terrible experience.

I am so sorry for your folks. I HOPE they now have something that works for them

Thank you for taking the time to document and post your experience with Craftmatic Adjustable beds. I believe you have saved many elderly and vulnerable people a very stressful experience.

I believe that you have certainly saved me in my pending purchase of an adjustable bed.

I am elderly, disabled, live in constant pain and would not be able to endure what you have described. Again, many thanks for your time and sharing your experience.

Glad i read your review! i'm considering buying a hospital bed and was convinced Craftmatic was the best i'm waiting to have a hip replacement but they have discovered something is causing my bone in that area to dissolve..

Had a hip aspiration yesterday but don't have results yet,. i have a lot of other health problems and am only 76 so i want a good one, i wish Craftmatic would just send a pamphlet and not insist on a phone call!Anyway thanks for your comments Brenda

Thankyou linda! I will not get a craftmatic bed now! Hope your parents got their old bed back..

Have had exactly similar results as those above. Whereas for some these beds may be ok the firm is only concerned with sales and not customer satisfaction. A very big mistake in my opinion.

Be wary when buying any bed they are very expensive, most especially Craftmatic, and are supposed to last many years.

I would not buy from this company again.

Guest

Craftmatic ended up refunding my father's money and picking up the bed. I was grateful to have the entire episode and stress behind us. They did the right thing.
